Notes from the Editor:
Another month, another editor... Well this month finds me at the helm once more. My apologies to all the fine English teachers out there who cringe when you read my writing. And I had once thought I wanted to be a professional writer. Someone said "don't quit your day job" - wonder what they meant…
Well I am glad you made it back. This is a feature packed issue. Many of the articles this month seem to deal with various API related programming. Although some of this would be considered advanced, I think we have a good smattering of topics for all levels of programmer this month. I am delighted to be able to present another fine article by Janet Terra that falls into the later category - this one written in the LB Lesson Browser. In this presentation she shows us the development of a heart rate simulator.
Gordon Sweet, a frequent contributor, is back with two demo programs: File Scanner and a Color Picker (Or is that Colour?). I enjoy Gordon's submissions (as I am sure you do too) as they often strike to the simple heart of programming. Our other Gordon is back with part 2 of his Poker Game development article - this time: Game AI.
Alyce Watson, newsletter publisher extraordinaire, has contributed a couple really nice articles this month. One on the creation and operation of API based Bit Map Buttons and the another on using the QCard DLL, following up to the last QCard lesson.
Robert Bromley is back for another appearance, this time with a cipher program and accompanying article. This one is for the backyard spy in us all, so grab you secret code ring and meet me there!
I have developed three smaller articles this time. I know many people were looking forward to seeing part seven of the Beginner series, but it is not done yet. I hope to have it ready to go for publication next month. We will see. Especially fun developing for this month's newsletter was the donut picker program. Have a go, but make sure you are not hungry at the time, or you will be on your way downtown for a hot KrispyKreme!
I had a lot of fun exploring and reviewing Jim Brossman's Snip Manager. You will find both the review and the Snip Manager (along with a nice library of code snippets) in the archive of the newsletter. This was a good sized addition to the newsletter, so I apologize in advance for the download size.
Everyone knows I like to have fun with my newsletters - sometimes at Tom Nally's expense, and this issue is not different. Wait, it is a little different. After all there are no alligators in this issue. Oh, and the humor factor is not actually at Tom's expense this time either. I guess I am getting soft. Well there are two very unique poems this month, and I think you will enjoy them.
Well that is it. Another month is a wrap. I sure hope you enjoy it. I must remind you all what Ben J Scott tells me: "There are 10 types of people in this world: Those who know Binary and those who don't!"…
Thanks - Brad Moore
P.S.
It has been great putting this issue together, and I hope you enjoy it. Please take time to comment on what you liked, make mention of things that need changed and maybe make some suggestions about what you would like to see next. The main area for discussion of the newsletter is on the Conforums website at: [http://babek.info/libertybasicfiles/lbnews/]
The Liberty BASIC Newsletter encourages all LB programmers to submit articles for publication. Everyone has something valuable to say, from beginners to veteran LBers. Consider sharing a code routine, with explanation. Perhaps you can review a favorite LB website, or program, or coding tool? Why not submit a list of questions that have been nagging at you? How about sharing your favorite algorithm?
